What is this procedure?

Thigh lift surgery, also known as thighplasty, is a surgical procedure that reshapes and reduces the size of the thighs by reducing excess skin and, in some cases, fat, resulting in smoother skin and more contoured and toned thighs. Factors such as ageing, sun damage, and extreme weight loss can contribute to sagging and excess skin. This surgery should be done when patients have reached their weight goal and significant skin excess.

In this procedure, the excess, flabby skin is removed from the thighs. The remaining skin and underlying supportive tissue are tightened, resulting in a more toned and contoured appearance. The incision (cut) length depends on the amount and location of excess skin that needs to be removed.

Inner (medial) Thigh “vertical “Lift: saggy skin and excess fat are removed by creating an incision (cut) that starts at the fold where the groin and the thigh meet and extend along the inner part of the thigh towards the knee. This procedure is suitable for patients with inner thigh skin excess down to knees.

Transverse “minimal incision” Inner Thigh Lift: in which the incision is made only in the groin area. This technique can be done where there is minimal saggy skin and tissue, only in the upper thighs, and sufficient skin elasticity.

Outer (lateral) Thigh Lift: the skin on the front and outside of the thigh is tightened. This procedure is usually performed in conjunction with a body lift or on its own by creating an incision extending from the groin, around the hip and through the back.

Liposuction is usually used in conjunction with a thigh lift to reduce excess fatty tissues from the inner surfaces of the thighs. However,  in a patient with circumferential heavy, fatty tissue excess, to get better results, liposuction is performed in a separate procedure followed by inner thigh lift 3-6 months later.

What can be achieved?

Thigh lift procedure is not an alternative to weight loss and is suited for patients who are at or near their goal weight and are in good physical shape. Thigh lift is a procedure that could benefit patients for cosmetic and functional reasons, including:

  • Improved shape of the thighs and lower body, creating a more toned and proportional appearance.
  • Eliminates chafing between the thighs
  • Improves difficulty in walking and exercising
  • Improves personal hygiene issues due to accumulation of sweat, and problems with a thorough cleaning of the affected areas leading to chronic dermatitis and skin infection
  • Allowing clothes to fit better and more comfortably
  • Improve self-esteem
